FREE to Students in Grades 9-12

Saturdays 9am-12:30pm in Kamananui Valley

The Moanalua Gardens Foundation is pleased to offer a new environmental education program to our partnering schools this. This 6-week program will blend online learning throughout the week with experiential learning opportunities each weekend. Students will engage with different themes and activities in Kamananui Valley that will prepare them to be the next generation of environmental stewards. Topics covered include the cultural history of the valley, environmental science, trail maintenance and mālama `āina, careers in the green industry, and more.

Monday – Friday:

Students will be part of a google classroom and have a series of assignments to prepare them for the weekend lessons and activities. Lessons may include readings, videos, short responses, and reflections. Students should expect to spend between 60 – 90 minutes in preparation each week.  

Saturday:

Each Saturday students will meet in small groups for 3.5 hours of lessons and activities related to the weeks theme. Students should wear shoes and be prepared to get dirty, wet, and have a good time. Saturday start times will be 9:00am.

Note: For those driving themselves it is recommended that you arrive 15-20 minutes early. You must park on the street and you may have to walk a block or two to reach the trailhead.

9:15-10:30 Hike/Activity/Lesson #1
10:30-10:45 Break
10:45-12:00 Hike/Activity/Lesson #2
12:00-12:30 Return/Check Out
