Moanalua Gardens Foundation
Founded in 1970, Moanalua Gardens Foundation (MGF) has served as a vital link in preserving and protecting the environmental and cultural resources of Hawai‘i. A non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, our mission is
“To preserve and perpetuate the native culture and environment of Hawai’i through education and stewardship of Kamananui (Moanalua) Valley and celebration of the annual Prince Lot Hula Festival.”
For the past four decades, MGF has pioneered programs which help people understand and appreciate the unique environmental and cultural resources of our islands. This knowledge is essential to developing informed stewards who will protect and preserve our fragile and vulnerable ‘āina.
In recent years, MGF has focused on educational activities and improvements for Kamananui Valley. We installed new interpretive signs, launched Huaka`i o Kamananui, Aloha ‘Āina Moanalua, a new place-based education program for fourth-graders, and are currently working on improving Kamananui Valley Road.

Since 1978 on the third weekend in July, the annual Prince Lot Hula Festival has brought together premier hālau hula (hula groups) from throughout the islands for a daylong celebration of hula in a non-competitive setting. One of Hawai‘i’s most exciting cultural events, the festival allows thousands of island residents and visitors to experience the beauty and spirit of the Hawaiian culture.
Please join Moanalua Gardens Foundation on Saturday, July 21 and Sunday, July 22, 2018, as we celebrate Hale a Kamehameha, the 41st annual Prince Lot Hula Festival. Enjoy two fun fun-filled days of outstanding hula and activities, including concerts, craft fair, cultural demonstrations, local foods, and more.
Saturday, July 21, 2018 - 9am - 4pm and Sunday, July 22, 2018 - 10am - 4pm: location to be announced.
